Key Person System

To ensure that we keep a clear picture of your child and their needs we have a “Key Person” system. A Key Person is a member of staff who has responsibility for a group of children within the setting. Their role is to ensure that the needs of each child, within their key worker group are catered for by creating a close relationship with the child and his/her parents and assisting in their integration in to the group as necessary.

Each family and child will have a member of staff allocated to them as a “Key Person”. This person could be your first point of contact should you have a query or information to share. You may, of course, approach any member of staff – we will all be very happy to help.

Your child’s “Key Person” will keep an overview of them during their time at playgroup, making observations, monitoring and helping  in the planning of the child’s individual learning and ongoing development.

They will produce Progress Summaries which will be shared with parents. Parents comments on their child’s development e.g. “went to the toilet by themselves”, “tried to write own name”, “counted up to ten”, etc are valuable and can be givne verbally or by completing a coloured card or any of the parent slips on the parent’s notice board. Your child’s key person will then note their development and place the card in their learning journey file.

You will be invited to “Stay and Play Sessions” where you can come in to play with your child, see your child at play, look through your child’s Learning Journey and talk to your child’s Key Person.

I hope that you feel that this system will be of benefit to you and your child and if you would like any other information about the Key Person system then please speak to the Playgroup Manager who will be more than happy to help.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS NOT ALWAYS POSSIBLE TO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD’S KEY PERSON IS PRESENT AT ALL YOUR CHILD’S SESSIONS SO WE ALSO ENSURE THAT YOUR CHILD IS FAMILIAR WITH THE COMPLETE STAFF TEAM.
